INTRODUCTION to the FESTIVAL

We have a new strategy to connect community and schools: Bring a 7-day Mural Festival and Career Mentoring Program to a school campus! Elementary students can’t exactly drive themselves around town to see murals or meet community members at their jobs. So, we thought we should bring everything to them!

Here’s the building that needs some community love.

Kindness Club International is challenging community members to Be the Change we need at Whittier Elementary so the Lions can have a more connected, healthy, and inspiring learning environment.

CHALLENGE #1 100% Community Funded
In response to a lack of school funding for a Mural Festival & Mentoring Program, we are challenging community members to step up and Adopt a Cub for $60 or become a Friend of the Festival with a donation. Read more about sponsorship.

CHALLENGE #2 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Our goal is to inspire 1,000 people to participate in the festival in one way, or another. We have something for everyone! Find out more about volunteering.

COMING UP NEXT: Community Planning Meeting Thursday, March 7th from 4:30 to 6:30 in the Whittier Library.

You just might know people who would LOVE to help bring this mural festival to 267 students! Help us find student sponsors and mentors. Spread the word! Learn more about the Mural Festival and Mentoring Program.

Why a Community Mural Festival? Albuquerque has a HUGE Mural Fest each year. After participating last year, I saw the power of community in action. Whittier Elementary needs more community involvement, just like so many others. We have created the perfect opportunity install 4 murals in 7 days and celebrate with a huge mural reveal party!! In the gallery you will see pictures of some of the murals we are planning! Join the team!

Why Whittier Elementary School?
Whittier is a high-need school in the process of transforming their culture and structure. And the are hard at work doing just that. Since the Fall they have been implementing Kindness Club Mindful Moments strategies and building a team of active Kindness Ambassadors. They are looking to implement even more innovative strategies for coping with challenges, like a Mural Festival Mentoring Program. Not every school is ready for that! But, the Lions are!

Meet the the Lion Leadership Class,
our Kindness Ambassador Team.
They will be in charge of organizing

and running the festival.

Are you now ready to Be the Change that a Whittier Lion is looking for? Give a student an experience of a lifetime that will shape their vision of their future. Adopt a Cub for $60 or become a Friend of the Festival with a donation. Read more about sponsorship.
